Editorial & Commercial Policy
How cars.zone maintains mathematical independence, statutory provenance, and ethical monetization standards.
In this policy
1. Editorial Mission
cars.zone is a U.S. automotive ownership-decision utility platform engineered to reduce transaction and maintenance cost uncertainty for car buyers and owners. We publish primary-sourced data, statutory tax matrices, and interactive decision engines.
Every published figure, formula, and statutory reference is treated as a commitment to accuracy. We do not publish low-value articles, fluff guides, or scaled programmatic text to inflate pageviews.
2. Sourcing, Verification & Primary Data Standards
Every numeric value and formula rendered on cars.zone maintains a strict chain of provenance:
- Tier 1 (Government & Statutory Primary): State Departments of Revenue, IRS statutory codes, US Department of Energy (AFDC), Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS CPI-U), and NHTSA datasets.
- Tier 2 (Industry Benchmarks): Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED), National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), and documented state tax reciprocity matrices.
- Verification Mandate: No data point is populated via unverified secondary aggregators or social forums. Every statutory constant is cross-checked against primary documentation prior to deployment.
3. Commercial Disclosures & Monetization
cars.zone is an independent commercial publishing platform. To fund technical development, database maintenance, and statutory data verification, we accept commercial monetization in the following forms:
- Affiliate & Lead Referral Links: We may earn referral commissions when users interact with or apply for auto loans, insurance comparisons, vehicle warranty quotes, trade-in valuations, or third-party transport tools linked on our site.
- Display Advertising: We may display contextual advertising units served through automated ad networks.
Strict Wall Between Revenue & Math
- Independent Computation: Commercial partnerships, affiliate networks, or advertiser payouts never alter, weight, or manipulate calculator outputs, state tax rates, or statutory formulas.
- No Pay-for-Play: Financial institutions, dealers, or insurers cannot pay to alter calculation outputs, hide lower-cost options, or rank higher in deterministic comparison tools.
- FTC Compliance: Any page containing commercial links or lead-generation tools displays an above-the-fold disclosure informing the user.
4. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Transparency
cars.zone leverages AI systems in conjunction with human engineering and data review.
What AI Is Used For:
- Code & Architecture Generation: Writing client-side JavaScript, mathematical functions, JSON-LD schema markup, and responsive UI components.
- Research Assistance: Locating primary statutory documentation, organizing data structures, and drafting preliminary technical explanations.
- Quality Assurance: Automated syntax verification, link integrity checks, and schema validation.
What AI Is NOT Allowed To Do:
- Fabricate Data: AI models are never permitted to guess, extrapolate, or hallucinate statutory numbers, tax rates, or formulas.
- Final Deployment: All calculator inputs, constants, and published code pass human inspection before going live.
5. Corrections, Maintenance SLA & Statutory Updates
When statutory rates change, state legislative sessions conclude, or Department of Revenue bulletins are issued:
- 48-Hour Statutory Revision SLA: The Cars.Zone Engineering Group commits to updating calculation parameters and master ledger citations within 48 hours of any official State Department of Revenue (DOR) regulatory publication or legislative enactment.
- Centralized Master Ledger Propagation: Rate updates are committed directly into our version-controlled public master ledger (
cz_statutory_matrix_2026.json) with a recomputed SHA-256 cryptographic audit signature, propagating revised parameters across all calculators instantly. - Direct Reporting Channel: Any statutory discrepancy or administrative rule update can be flagged directly to contact@cars.zone. Submissions are reviewed against primary DOR administrative codes within 24 hours.
